Comrie Development Trust
Comrie Development Trust (CDT) purchased the 90 acre Cultybraggan Army Camp Site in September 07 under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act. The intention was to develop the site in a way which would achieve regeneration of the local economy rather than see the land being purchased by a developer and lost to the community.
The first phase of development consists the creation of 30 allotments, the refurbishment of 9 Nissen Huts and infrastructure work covering water, electricity and sewage to be done to provide a platform for future development. SIF has provided £200,000 made up of a mix of loan and grant.
A number of social impacts result as a consequence of this investment. In the early stages work for 20 local people will be provided and the occupancy of the main unit by Wild Thyme will secure a further 20 jobs. Grass cutting, caretaking and any other services will be locally based and the allotments will result in the production of local produce which will help improve the overall health of the local community. The sports and recreation area will assist with exercise and the improvement of health and will also help provide a focus for young people thereby avoiding crime problems.
The predictive SROI calculation indicates that the return for every £ invested is £9.58.
